Participation. Waterford expects my children to actively participate in a campus environment that not only helps them grow, it also helps them grow up. I’m expected to help by staying actively involved with my kids and participating whenever possible in on-campus events, whether that means attending a choral concert, or watching my daughter in a class play, or making sure I make it to the annual Father’s Day at Waterford. Being actively involved with my children on campus reinforces the importance I place on their learning and makes our family’s experience at the school a lot more meaningful.
Support. I’ve learned that Waterford is eager for my support, whether that means making a donation to the Annual Giving campaign, or serving as an usher at a concert. The fact is Waterford is still relatively young as private schools go. So there is ample opportunity to make a difference in helping the school continue on its path. After a few years of sending my children to Waterford, I’ve gotten to a point where I’d like to help leave a legacy. After all, my children are enjoying a school built with the help of parents that came before me. I know Waterford hopes that I’ll perpetuate that legacy for its future student bodies.
Understanding. Waterford is a unique place. It’s taken me a while to understand it all, and there’s still more I have to learn. However, I’ve come to see the wisdom of things like uniforms, the school’s integrated math curricula, the need for Latin in fourth grade, the push to learn a foreign language, even the beauty of two weeks of Spring break every year with the entire family. I’ve also learned the unifying effect of having all our children at one school, on one campus. But most of all my understanding of Waterford has deepened as I’ve witnessed my children transform into intelligent, thoughtful, rational young adults who are preparing to lead purposeful and honorable lives. |
