Peace of Mind. When I drop my children off at school, I am always reassured that they are learning in a nurturing and safe environment from teachers who are focused on their individual needs and who teach them to think, analyze, critique, explore, create and build. I know they’re getting one of the best liberal arts educations available from some of the best teachers in the country who deliver a remarkably powerful curriculum. I also know that my children are learning and growing in the company of scholars and visionaries. There is a steady stream of great thinkers from outside the school who come onto campus to share their knowledge and experiences with my children. Consequently, my children’s education is no longer on my worry list.
Accountability. I’ve come to realize that my children are vitally important to everyone at Waterford. All attention is placed on them and their learning and experience. When there’s an issue with one of our children—perhaps they are struggling scholastically or socially—I hear about it from a concerned and capable teacher and we work on a plan of action to address the issue. I receive follow up contact with updates. I can visit with the teacher and discuss my child’s progress at any time. I believe it’s because Waterford teachers take their jobs as seriously as I take my job as a parent. They know they are accountable to provide students with the best possible environment for learning and growth.
Stability. Waterford has been in operation for 24 years—relatively young in private school terms. Based on what I’ve seen so far, I expect them to be around for the next 100 years. They have put a financial model in place to insure longevity and stability. The school is backed by solid vision and leadership, and the administration manages its resources with caution and precision. Because Waterford is a research school, the faculty and staff are continually refining and evolving class curricula as well as their own skills and knowledge. That means the school won’t ever stagnate but will always keep ahead of advancements in education. Take its focus on computer-assisted learning. They’ve been leading the industry in that area for the past 24 years. There’s always something new going on in the area of education at Waterford.
Community. When I sent my children to Waterford four years ago, I didn’t realize that I was joining the school as well. Waterford fosters a community of teachers, students and families that provides a safety net for children and a social community for parents. Some of our closest friends are those we’ve made at Waterford. It truly is a place for the entire family. And it’s not just a social network. There are even classes for parents as well, like the recent digital photography class that was offered last summer. I’ve come to realize there is always something happening at Waterford.
