Summer Term 2008

Waterford Summer Term 2008 includes offerings for Waterford students. Travel and field trips take advantage of the flexibility of summer scheduling. On and off campus, students attend class and are exposed to a unique combination of lectures, seminars, labs, fieldwork, research, performance, and travel. They may write papers, keep journals, prepare portfolios and do special research projects.

Enclosed is a description for each course, detailing the curriculum, requirements, faculty advisors, cost, dates and times, and age levels for which the course is available. Questions regarding courses should be addressed to the Faculty Advisor or to Matt Alexander (matthewalexander@waterfordschool.org or 576-4920).

Students may enroll in as many courses as they like. Some courses have prerequisites and require an application essay.

Notes:

Application Deadlines: Application does not guarantee participation in a particular course. All course requirements and appropriate preparation must be completed. Typically, seniority is given preference when a course is over enrolled. The first payment (25%) is due with the application and is non-refundable except in the case of cancellation due to under subscription or if the student is not accepted. Remaining course fees will be billed in March, and cannot be refunded for travel courses after March 30.

Tuition: Costs include instruction, fees, books, materials and travel costs (including transportation, housing and meals) except where otherwise stated.

Classes are limited to Waterford students: Students who are entering or returning to Waterford in the fall are eligible. Some courses are also available to graduating seniors. Summer Term is an extension of the 2007-08 School Year. All school policies, student codes of conduct and contractual enrollment agreements made in the 2007-08 school year are applicable and binding.

Pre-Trip Meetings: For travel based summer courses, pre-trip meetings will be held on Wednesday, March 26 at 7:00 pm at Waterford. Students enrolled in travel courses and one parent are required to attend. Faculty Advisors will present the itinerary, rules, course requirements, and forms to sign, and will answer questions. Room numbers to be announced.

Note: Travel has been a traditional and valuable part of the Spring Break and Summer Term Program. Given the uncertainty of world events, heightened risk, fluxuating exchange rates and potential program complications may require the cancellation or adjustment of courses involving travel.
