Local Utah Scholarships
College-based:

General Annual Scholarship Awards:
• Zion’s Bank Founders Scholarship Program. One Full-Tuition Scholarship at each college and university in Utah and Idaho. Strictly Merit Based. Looking for top students (likely 3.5+ GPA and ACT scores of 29+ who have done much community service, even beyond school and church involvement. You can request application from your Utah or Idaho college of interest. Requires letter of recommendation from teacher or counselor, one page essay; one student chosen by each university. Energy Solutions Foundation Scholarship. Awarded to one 10th Grade Student per high school. $2000 to study math, science, or engineering in college. Requirements/process: 3.5 + GPA, plan to study math, science, or engineering, complete essays and submit recommendation. Jan. 31. Register online at www.energysolutionsfoundation.org.
Utah State Office of Education—Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship—Federally funded scholarship for Utah scholar at any college in U.S.--$1500/ yr.; Criteria: 3.70+ GPA, 25+ ACT; Not need-based. Susan W. Coda PEO Sisterhood Scholarship—for Utah woman scholar attending college outside of Utah 3.8 GPA or higher--$4000+. Paper application from Mrs. Rauscher Deadline March 1.
The Violet Richardson Award: Honoring Young Women for Volunteer Action. Based on Service only. One $1000 scholarship, with opportunity to go into regional and nationwide pool for more money. Only 13 Utahns applied last year. Dec. 1
Utah Society of Professional Engineers (USPE) Joe Rhoads Scholarship--$1000 for student interested in engineering as profession
Men’s and Women’s Italian American Civic League. Applicants must be of recent Italian ancestry. Based on scores, GPA, and extra-curricular, service. $1500
Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship. Criteria: GPA, Test scores, personal statement, recommendation, financial need. $not specified. March 15. www.rmhcslc.org
Utah State Office of Education—T.H. Bell Teaching Incentive Loan Program—Loan Forgiveness program for those who teach after graduating. Full tuition at Utah Public schools, or $970/semester at private schools.
UEA Foundation/Utah Jazz for interest in teaching—ten $1000
Utah Society of Professional Engineers—for a Utah University Engineering student—Full Tuition
Utah Sports Hall of Fame—based on academics, financial need, character, leadership, and involvement in athletic activities—eight $2000 scholarships to be used at Utah college or university.
Utah Association of Office Professionals--$200, one $1000; for those going into
Society of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters to Seniors who will be majoring in business, finance or insurance. Three $1000 scholarships in Utah. http://utah.cpcusoiety.org/ . March 10 deadline.
Utah Trappers Association—for Utah seniors enrolling in agriculture, conservation, or biology (or related) program.
Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Scholarship Contest. Essay, recommendations; $250 for Utah winners, up to $3000 for national winner. December deadline. www.dar.org Go to “Scholarships”. See Mrs. Rauscher for local contact.
Harmon’s grocery store Scholarship—for student employed at Harmon’s for one year, and continuously—max. $3500/yr.

National Scholarship Awards (to name a few)
• USAA National Minority Leadership Awards. Teacher nominated. Criteria: Over 3.0 GPA, Leadership, motivation, enthusiasm, responsibility. 250 $1500 grants nationwide annually.
Sam Walton Community Scholarship. $1000 for first year at college. www.walmartfoundation.org. (SWCS is access code)
American Chemical Society Scholars Program. Merit and Financial Need-Based scholarships for African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students planning to major in chemistry, biochem, chemical engineering, etc. http://chemistry.org/scholars. $2500/yr. March 1 deadline.
Toyota Community Scholars. For community service and scholarship. Need signed nomination form & application from Mrs. Rauscher. December 2 deadline.
For Minority Students:
Gates Millennium Scholars. For underrepresented minorities, generous grants, especially for study in the sciences, math, engineering, technology, education. Deadline Early January. www.gmsp.org. Must be nominated by teacher or counselor.

Essay Contests:
• Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ladies Auxiliary Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition (High School) and Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest (6th-8th grade). National essay contest for scholarship money. November 1 deadline.
Holocaust Remembrance Project National Essay Contest. 30 Awards, 10 each for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. $100-10,000 & trip to Washington, D.C. www.holocaust.hklaw.com. Essay due May 1.
U.S. Institute of Peace National Peace Essay. $1000-10000. Feb. 1 Deadline. www.usip.org
The Chapel of Four Chaplains Essay, Service, and Art Contests 450 word essay for Seniors on “bridges of understanding through service to humanity”; Also, “Project Lifesaver” Team Service Project Contest; and National Art contest: art reflecting the theme: “making the world a better place through service and sacrifice.” Late November and early December deadlines. Five $300-$1000 awards for each contest. www.fourchaplains.org.
