STUDENT LIFE

Waterford is for students who want to learn, who want to experience so much and do so much. In the process, these students of dramatically different sizes and ages, interests and abilities become remarkably good people, ready to take their place in the world. They all wear uniforms, yet each stands out in the crowd. They all love to play, whether in organized team competition or in activities they fashion themselves.

In Lower Schools they play at recess with typical abandon but back in the classroom they focus quickly. They are easily engaged in learning for that is the norm. They are energetic and eager. They all love lunch.

In Middle School student life is quite symmetrical. Classes are demanding, personal responsibility is too. Students act, sing, write, research, debate, decorate their lockers, design web pages, kick the soccer ball across the quad at lunch and into the goal in competition. They are expected to get their work done on their own. They do. They are safe at Waterford. They come to school to learn, for learning is valued.

In Upper School the entire Waterford experience comes together. Students begin to find one niche, only to find another they like as well. They juggle calculus and Japanese, chemistry and economics, British literature, basketball and computer programming. Advanced Placement and Honors courses are the norm; Honors and High Honors at the end of term are prized.
Not everything happens during the class day or on campus. Leaders in Student Government, Community Service, Outdoor Club, and Yearbook direct a host of activities that draw students together after school and on weekends. Interim trips shift the learning environment to the Navajo Reservation, the San Rafael Swell, the Snake River or the Green River. Students bike, hike, climb or catch the vista by camera as part of their full Waterford experience.

In IIA and IIIA high school athletics, Waterford is a major force. Teams compete in basketball, tennis, volleyball, golf, cross country, soccer and lacrosse. Waterford has won its share of titles, trophies and respect. Individual athletes have been honored on All State teams including All State Academic rosters.

It is a very busy regimen. One that is as demanding as it is consuming and fulfilling. Put simply, Waterford students enjoy a remarkable school experience. They learn to work together; small numbers prompt camaraderie and community. For each student there is more than enough to do, never enough time to do it all. What they choose to do, they do well.
